A study published in Environmental Science and Technology examined whether producing biofuel from algae would be viable. The study by Cornell researchers used computer simulations to predict the maximum yields from algae, and found the process of wet extraction provided the highest yield when combined with other techniques.
AMR Corp. is seeking to extend the deadline for filing its reorganization plan until April 15. "American has made significant progress in its restructuring," American spokesman Sean Collins said, adding that the process "takes time."
Allegiant Travel, the parent company of Allegiant Air, reported $14.8 million in earnings for the fourth quarter. The quarter marked the 40th profitable quarter in a row for the Las Vegas-based airline. "We're just going to be a cash machine going forward," Allegiant CEO Maurice Gallagher said.
The Federal Aviation Administration relied on Boeing engineers to certify the Dreamliner 787s. "We provide rigorous oversight," the agency said. John McGraw, former FAA deputy safety director, said, "[T]his has been done since the start of the FAA. This is really just an extension of that, with better oversight than they had back then.”
Airbus said it plans to go ahead with lithium-ion batteries in its latest design for the A350. "We studied the integration of these batteries on the A350 very carefully," Airbus CEO Fabrice Brégier said. "I am very relaxed about this."
