Dentists, gynecologists, pediatricians and other doctors are increasingly offering cosmetic procedures, but they often lack board certification in plastic surgery. Physicians who are not board-certified in plastic surgery might not have hospital privileges for surgical procedures and must perform surgeries in their offices, putting patients at risk, says plastic surgeon Elan Reisin. Prospective patients should check their doctor's board certifications and know that certified outpatient centers and hospitals are the safest settings for surgery and other treatments.
