The large cracks in the concrete pontoons that will hold up Seattle's new $4.1 billion State Route 520 floating bridge are due to errors and flaws made by the state when approving the design for the bridge, according to state Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond. Repairs could cost over $100 million, but that's within the project's $200 million contingency fund. However, the scheduled completion date of December 2014 will be delayed. "I’m hopeful the project will be done within 2015," Hammond said.
