Atlantic Wind Connection has proposed building a "backbone" transmission line that could supply the mainland grid with 7,000 megawatts of electricity from offshore wind farms from New Jersey to Virginia. The project's first phase would be good for consumers by allowing the congested power market in the northern part of the state to access resources in South Jersey as power transmission across the state would improve, said Bob Mitchell, Atlantic Wind Connection's CEO.
