Christchurch, New Zealand, still has not recovered from a magnitude 6.3 2011 earthquake, and Seattle, which is atop a major fault line, wants to make sure it fares better than Christchurch in a similar event. Seattle has made an inventory of nearly 800 brick buildings at risk from earthquakes and will consider having a mandatory retrofit program for those buildings.
