Injecting epinephrine into the lower thigh of overweight and obese children with a serious allergic reaction was more effective than aiming for the upper thigh, U.K. researchers found. Delivering the medication into the muscle improves absorption and results in higher blood levels compared with injection into the overlaying fat, study author Dr. Peter Arkwright said. The study was presented at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology meeting.
