As the technical difficulty of creating dried clumps of Greek yogurt was solved, marketers created packaging, and ad agency Upshot developed a television ad.
Nestle teamed with information technology company Selerant to develop Ecodex, which analyzes the environmental impact of the company's product lines. "The tool uses information specific to the food and beverage industry to provide rapid and accurate data that allows our product development teams to assess sustainability performance across multiple product lines," said Anne Roulin, head of sustainability for research and development.
Mintel predicts sales of gum and sugar confectionery in Brazil will grow 5% a year over the next three years as the country prepares to host the World Cup and the Olympic Games. Senior food analyst Jean Manuel Goncalves da Silva said tropical and dessert flavors are gaining traction as the target consumer shifts from children to young adults.
In a survey from NPD Group, boxed chocolates emerged as the top Valentine's Day candy gift, with 62% of shoppers saying they will spend up to $100 for the holiday. According to a PriceGrabber survey, 56% will make Valentine's purchases online, a 22% increase over 2012.
Georg Herbertz of Herbertz Dairy Food Service said aerated products such as marshmallows are ideal carriers for whey proteins. "Thanks to the development of new technologies, we are able today to produce a number of whey ingredients and use them in our confectionery products," he said.
