In response to security concerns, Apple is shipping its OS without Java plug-ins installed and is automatically disabling customer-installed Java plug-ins if they go unused for 35 days. "Java plug-ins have long been a rich target of opportunity for malicious hackers. No matter how air-tight a computer's operating system, it can't close all the holes in a third-party add-on," writes Philip Elmer-DeWitt.
