Mobile electronics are expected to help key growth in the global semiconductor industry this year, increasing sales by 4.5% from last year's $290 billion, according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization. Chip sales declined last year by 3.2% from 2011 as the PC market softened. Meanwhile, the Semiconductor Industry Association estimated that worldwide IC sales were $24.74 billion in December, bringing the 2012 total to $291.6 billion.
