The CDC on Thursday announced a new wave of antismoking advertisements featuring people whose lives have been adversely affected by smoking or secondhand smoke. More than 1,000 Americans younger than 18 become regular smokers every day, the agency said. "This campaign is saving lives and saving dollars by giving people the facts about smoking in an easy-to-understand way that encourages quitting," HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said.
