The 100-year-old copper roof of the Bangor Public Library in Maine needs to be replaced because the aging structure leaks and is beyond repair. Copper will be used for the new roof because -- even though it is more costly -- it will last longer, said John Rohman from the library's board of trustees. Structural work also will need to be done to shore up the roof in some areas. Residents will vote on a $3 million bond measure this summer to pay for the repairs.
