Teachers -- and more specifically their mindset and actions -- have an effect on students' education, writes teacher Mark Sass. In this blog post, he examines the influence teachers have on students, compared with outside influences such as socioeconomic status and preterm birth weight. He writes about data collected by educational researcher John Hattie, who lists 150 influences on student achievement. The top 38 are all within teachers' control -- such as self-reported grades, clarity and providing formative evaluation.
