Efforts by Florida state senators to amend a 2006 law that allows utilities to recover nuclear plant development costs from their customers were criticized by Progress Energy Florida and Florida Power & Light. "Florida's nuclear cost recovery system made it possible to retrofit our existing nuclear plants, which injected billions into the state's economy, created thousands of good-paying jobs and will save our customers billions of dollars in fuel costs," said FPL spokesman Erik Hofmeyer.
