Iowa health care providers participating in Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield's accountable care program saved $35 million in spending on health care last year, and 11 providers received a total of $11.4 million in incentive payments, Wellmark Vice President Michael Fay said.
Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield has collaborated with health systems in Iowa and Nebraska to form four accountable care organizations. The agreements bring Wellmark's total number of ACOs to 13, involving more than 2,000 doctors and 525,000 patients.
Data on 207,954 VA patients showed those with post-traumatic stress disorder had greater incidence of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome compared with those who did not have a PTSD diagnosis. "This is a disorder that needs to be looked at and treated as a public health problem," said Dr. Ramin Ebrahimi, who discussed the findings at the American College of Cardiology meeting.
Invendo medical has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its C20 colonoscopy device along with the company's SC20 colonoscope, a handheld tool designed to be used with computer-aided technology that will minimize stress on the colon wall. The devices have been installed for the first time in the U.S. at two facilities in New York.
Hy-Vee is offering specialty pharmacy services to Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield members with illnesses calling for complex drug regimens. Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions will provide services such as home delivery and pharmacists available 24 hours a day to answer questions.
