Polymer scientists from the U.S. and the Netherlands have succeeded in building a large co-polymer featuring a bottlebrush polymer with a collapsible tail of nanoparticles. The team used four steps to create the co-polymer from methacrylate-based monomers. "I am convinced this work will spur other researchers to further push the frontiers of polymer synthesis, the ultimate goal being to design synthetic materials with many of the capabilities and properties of natural materials," said Craig J. Hawker of the Materials Research Laboratory at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
