Giving healthy children and teens attention- or mood-enhancing drugs to improve their mental performance cannot be justified, for both legal and developmental reasons, the American Academy of Neurology said in a position statement in the journal Neurology. "What we're saying is that because of the volume of drugs and the incredible increase ... the possibility of overdiagnosis and overtreatment is clearly there," lead author Dr. William Graf said.
