The Seneca County, N.Y., Board of Advisors this week voiced its opposition to Inergy's planned underground LPG storage facility along Seneca Lake just north of Watkins Glen. "Putting one of the region's most valuable assets, Seneca Lake, at risk of suffering irreparable damage is not only unacceptable, it's also unbelievable," said Stephen Churchill, chairman of the county's Environmental Affairs Committee. Inergy maintains that the proposed facility poses no threat to the environment and nearby communities, saying that the "safety of our employees and the environment is paramount in all of our projects."
