The Open Networking Foundation is launching a working group tasked with eventually leveraging the OpenFlow protocol -- which was designed with Ethernet switches in mind -- for use in optical transport networks. Details of the working group have yet to be revealed, but observers say it is likely to include members of optical firms such as Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena, Ericsson, Huawei and Infinera.
