Netflix, Amazon, Microsoft and DIRECTV are developing their own programming, in competition with cable and broadcast networks and with each other, Brian Stelter writes. The investments in new online series could create more momentum for cord-cutting while increasing demand for broadband Internet, Stelter adds.
