Reps. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, and Scott Garrett, R-N.J., want to know how much of the Securities and Exchange Commission's resources were spent on trying to extend the time frame for its bringing civil penalties in fraud cases, an effort that ultimately proved fruitless. The congressmen contend that the agency should have applied its energies on more valuable pursuits.
