Children in the 7-to-13 age bracket are expressing their preference for gadgets over toys, according to Allison Arling-Giorgi of The Intelligence Group. Two-thirds of that age cohort would rather have a smartphone or a tablet computer, according to research. Those 46 million children, part of what researchers are calling Generation Z, are "the main drivers behind parental purchases," said Arling-Giorgi.
