Insurance data show only 10.9% of spending for health care services in 2012 was based on value, while 89.1% was through traditional fee-for-service payments, according to a study by a consortium of 21 large U.S. employers. The Catalyst for Payment Reform said its report, the National Scorecard on Payment Reform, is aimed at encouraging the health care industry to move faster in adopting value-based payment systems that focus on quality and efficiency.
