Some educators in Indiana are speaking out against the adjunct teacher permit, an alternative route to the classroom that bypasses many of the education and child-psychology courses needed to become a teacher. The permit, approved last winter by the Indiana Board of Education, essentially allows college graduates with a high GPA who pass a subject test to earn a permit to teach that subject in middle or high school. Opponents say teaching requires much more than just knowledge of a subject.
