Teachers and students in Catholic schools in North Carolina and Tennessee watched Pope Benedict XVI's last appearance as church leader on television and discussed the religious and historical significance of his resignation and status as pope emeritus. "This is something that we have not seen in several hundred years and everyone has sort of had to refresh themselves on how to handle certain protocols with the resignation as opposed to the death of a Pope," said Davis Bodie, who teaches middle-school social studies and religion at Sacred Heart Cathedral School in Knoxville, Tenn.
