Five type 1 diabetes patients who received a 100% insulin dose experienced hypoglycemia within three hours of exercise, compared with only two cases in patients who received a 25% dose before running on a treadmill for 45 minutes and a 50% dose an hour later, a small study showed. The findings in Diabetes Care suggest reducing insulin doses before and after exercise may help prevent low blood glucose levels, researchers said.
