The public's rapidly growing acceptance of marriage equality could influence the Supreme Court’s decisions in two pending cases, according to this analysis. Some say the court could overturn California’s Proposition 8 in a way that also would strike down marriage bans in seven other states. Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon and Rhode Island offer same-sex couples most of the rights afforded married couples, but don't allow them to legally marry, a status the court could find unconstitutional.
