An analysis of Medicare data involving patients with advanced cancer found no consistent association between spending and survival. "Our findings suggest that healthcare providers should be incentivized to develop strategies aimed at reducing potentially avoidable hospitalizations and increasing timely access to palliative care for patients with advanced cancer," researchers at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute concluded in a report published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
