Kittitas County in Washington is considering charging $250 for emergency medical service 9-1-1 calls that do not result in ambulance transport. Officials say they do not want to discourage people from using 9-1-1 in an emergency, but they do want to cut down on nonemergency calls, some linked to drug and alcohol use, because less than 50% of all calls to fire crews result in hospital transport.
