A $2.2 billion underground power line that would bring 1,000 megawatts of electricity to New York City from Quebec, Canada, has been approved by the New York Public Service Commission. The 333-mile Champlain Hudson Power Express would deliver about 10% of the city’s power needs. The project, which still needs to obtain several federal permits, is expected to be in service by 2017.
