Some carmakers are exploring wired network technologies as an alternative to Wi-Fi, Long-Term Evolution and 3G in providing high-definition back-seat entertainment services that can keep up with highway speeds, says IHS. In a report, the research firm points to a wide range of wired technologies -- Ethernet and beyond -- along with new Wi-Fi systems. Carmakers are reportedly concerned that wireless technologies could interfere with in-car safety applications.
