Retailers' window displays are more important than ever as stores compete with online retail. Cartier, Nordstrom and other major retailers have taken to high-tech displays to make their store windows stand out in a digital age, while Selfridges recently took the opposite tack. The London department store known for its eye-catching windows since its 1909 founding unveiled the No Noise campaign with simple, unbranded exhibits that urged passersby to slow down for a minute.
