For people with hepatitis C, co-infection with the hepatitis B virus is relatively uncommon, but exposure is common. Coinfection is linked to factors such as age, gender and HIV status, researchers found in an analysis of a Veterans Affairs registry. The study population consisted of 168,239 people. "Based on these findings, all patients with HCV exposure should be tested for HBV," researchers said.
