At 224 million, U.S. users of applications on mobile devices has passed those 221 million people on laptop and desktop computers, according to Flurry Analytics. Now app-use hours are rivaling television watching, with 52 million Americans using the top 250 Apple iOS apps during prime time, comparing favorably to the combined audience for the top three TV shows on a good week. "We believe this comparison says a couple of important things about the app audience: first that it has reached critical mass, and second that it is still highly fragmented relative to more traditional forms of media," Flurry's Mary Ellen Gordon says.
