Local ad spending on social media in the U.S. is expected to total almost half of national spending on social networks by 2017, according to a BIA/Kelsey forecast. The study predicts local ad spending will increase from $1.6 billion this year to $3.6 billion in 2017, while national advertising will increase from $4.5 billion to $7.3 billion in the same period. Native ad spending is expected to grow at a faster pace than display, with the native ad market increasing from $2.36 billion to $4.57 billion during the period.
