Computer-chip maker GlobalFoundries is spending roughly $2 million a day to build its new research and development center in New York. In a single day, 2,400 cubic yards of concrete was placed, which will form only part of the building's foundation, and it will take 24 pours of the same volume to complete the foundation. The $2.1 billion project currently employs 1,200 construction workers, but that will increase to 3,000 by mid-fall, according to Gerald Goff, the top construction official on-site for GlobalFoundries.
