Owners, operators and potential buyers or sellers of sites such as gas stations and dry cleaners that may be contaminated by petroleum, volatile organic compounds or other solvents are among those who could be affected by the Environmental Protection Agency's new guidance documents on vapor intrusion, writes attorney John Heer. The draft documents call for establishing a five-year period for regional EPA officials to monitor vapor-intrusion risks at many Superfund sites where cleanups are finished, Heer writes.
