Fourth-graders at Chadwick Elementary School in Baltimore spend 140 minutes in reading class under the instruction of a reading teacher who is assisted by a math instructor, a special-education teacher and a teacher's aide. The co-teaching environment and extra time allow students to work on more complex projects -- such as writing nonfiction books about dinosaurs in groups -- and educators can observe student work and discuss their needs during the class.
