The California Supreme Court on Wednesday heard oral arguments over whether unlicensed school employees should be allowed to administer insulin shots to children with diabetes in the absence of nurses. Previous lower court rulings upheld a state law that allows only licensed providers to administer such medications. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics sided with other health groups in supporting the proposal that non-nursing school employees should be permitted to give insulin shots.
