The Chicago Teachers Union has organized three days of marches -- the third is expected to end today at City Hall -- against Chicago Public Schools' plan to close 53 elementary schools and one high school. Teachers, parents and other opponents of the closures have, among other things, raised concerns about student safety. Supporters say the schools are underutilized, and closures will help the district close a $1 billion budget shortfall. The board of education is expected to take up the proposal on Wednesday.
