Chiefs for Change, a small group of state education officials, released a letter to Education Secretary Arne Duncan on Tuesday, calling for states to stay on course with plans to use tests aligned with the Common Core State Standards to evaluate teachers and schools. The letter is in contrast to recent calls by Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, for a moratorium on the consequences of the high-stakes testing until the standards are more fully implemented. Also on Tuesday, Weingarten issued a response saying Chiefs for Change had distorted her proposal.
