Five companies have indicated their interest with North Dakota's Public Service Commission to build wind farms with a combined generating capacity of 686 megawatts, said Commissioner Brian Kalk. The renewal of the wind-energy Production Tax Credit earlier this year is a key factor in the renewed interest in wind power, Kalk said. If completed, the five proposals would represent about $1 billion worth of construction activity and increase the state's wind-power capacity by 41%, Kalk said.
