A new device circulates blood cells and nutrients through human donor livers, keeping them alive and healthy before implantation. The OrganOx device, developed by a biomedical engineer at Oxford University in the U.K. along with the director of the Oxford Transplant Centre, improves on the traditional liver preservation method of cooling, prolonging the period of transition from donor to patient and bettering the odds of a successful transplant.
