Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Gary Gensler's insistence that U.S. regulation should be enforced wherever U.S. banks do business is a position the international community will not tolerate, and will ultimately harm American interests, according to this editorial. Conversely, while the Securities and Exchange Commission's proposal is not ideal, it at least recognizes that foreign governments have the ability to regulate themselves.
