The high school with the highest graduation rate in Montgomery County, Ind., -- 98.2% -- owes its success, in part, to a bonus period in which students get extra time to work with teachers, said North Montgomery High School principal Doug Miller. The school's bonus period meets after school three days a week with buses returning to the school to take bonus-period students home. "That takes a commitment from administrators, teachers and students and we have seen our failure rates decrease every year since we started our bonus period," Miller said.
