Multinational corporations taking a fresh look at other options, particularly in Asia, led to a 4% drop in foreign direct investment in China last year. But the decline came after a record US$116 billion in FDI for 2011. Looking ahead, no sustained downward trend is deemed likely, with "FDI bouncing around US$110 billion to US$120 billion for some years," said Tim Condon, an ING economist in Singapore.
