Fruit growers have to be on guard against a number of diseases and pests with the power to decimate their crops, including a bacteria called fire blight that attacks in the early spring planting season, says horticulture specialist Michele Warmund. She suggests planting disease-resistant plants to ward off diseases including fire blight, which can be difficult to control and can only be treated with an antibiotic spray.
