Managers shouldn't be involved in hiring decisions until they've shown themselves capable of managing someone smarter than they are, Andy Porter writes. "What this shows me is that you aren't afraid to surround yourself with talent even if the person is better than you in certain areas," he writes. Managers also should have demonstrated a willingness to share resources with other departments and an ability to make difficult decisions in order to fix mistakes, Porter writes.
