Fifth-grade students from Iles Elementary School in Illinois researched the beginning of the state's public school system, wrote a script for a play explaining the development of property taxes and uniform textbook adoption, and performed their creation as part of a series of class projects on Civil War-era history in Illinois. Students began their work early in the semester researching their projects, including spending a day with librarians at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.
