India's Supreme Court ruled in favor of a change in the law to allow multi-brand foreign retailers to own 51% of their operations in the country, citing government studies that show the measure would likely cut out unnecessary middlemen without putting the country's small retailers out of business. "The policy may fail, who knows? But it deserves a chance," the court said in its ruling.
