To get a new business venture off the ground, you have to make yourself visible, focus on customer satisfaction and have fun with what you're doing, says Christa Hill, who sells cookies in parks and bars in San Francisco. Hill, who spent years working for nonprofits, launched her business -- called Hey, Cookie -- after leaving her job when her mother suffered a stroke. Her journeys in the park have helped her make connections that have allowed her to do events with several large companies, she says.
